Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Del Rio public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Consolidation of Advisory Commissions
The council eliminated the Airport Commission, which rarely met, and now airport matters go straight through the city manager to the council. One citizen objected, saying volunteer boards serve residents.
Golf course beverage availability
A citizen complained golfers couldn't even buy water before the new vending contractor takes over; staff said they'll ensure water availability and the new rollout is expected by mid-to-late January.
Buena Vista Pool rehabilitation contract and conflict-of-interest debate
The council awarded a $941,000 contract to fix Buena Vista Pool to a company owned by Councilman Quiñones, who abstained. Members defended the process — two bid rounds with almost no responses and about $600,000 in savings — but a citizen questioned the ethics and two members voted no.
San Felipe Creek Pump Track Project Funding
The city is tracking numerous capital improvement projects, including wastewater upgrades, street paving, and drainage ponds, while navigating funding shortfalls and grant applications.
Robert “Bob” Chavira Sports Complex Funding
Val Verde County is building a $7 million sports complex and asked the EDC for $100,000 to $150,000 to help. The board agreed to allocate $200,000 toward the concession stand to boost local quality of life and sports tourism.
Golf Course Financial Performance and March Revenue
The golf course brought in strong revenue in March, resulting in a rare profitable month that helps offset earlier quarterly losses.
Spark Golf App Integration for Thursday Twilight Play
Adding the Spark Golf app will bring in more players on Thursday evenings at no out-of-pocket cost to the city.
